Fat Grafting

Fat Grafting is the best way to restore volume in the face naturally! Fat Grafting is a permanent treatment that will provide a more youthful appearance to your face. Fat Grafting can help with the common signs of aging, such as the face falling forward, and is good for all age groups.

The fat is harvested from your own body, most commonly from the stomach. The harvested fat is then usually injected into the temples, upper cheeks, lower cheeks and the back of the face.

The transferred fat survival rates vary depending on each patient, but there can be up to an 83% survival rate for the fat that is grafted!

Because fat is a natural substance and is harvested from your own body, the results look and feel more natural, compared to synthetic fillers. Fat Grafting can also provide a more harmonious integration with the surrounding tissues.

Fat Grafting is natural approach to enhancing facial volume. The fat is harvested from the patient’s own body, most commonly from the stomach, and is then skillfully injected into key facial areas. Including the temples, upper cheeks, lower cheeks and the back of the face.

A major advantage of the Fat Grafting is that the because it is a natural substance derived from the patient’s body, provides results that look and feel more natural than synthetic fillers. The results from Fat Grafting are also often more long-lasting than fillers and many patients are choosing to switch over to Fat Grafting instead for restoring volume in their face! Fat Grafting not only adds volume but may also stimulate tissue regeneration. The transferred fat contains stem cells and growth factors that can contribute to improved skin quality in the treated areas.

This procedure allows for a greater degree of customization as the amount of fat injected can be precisely controlled. The flexibility is beneficial for achieving tailored and natural results.

While some of the transferred fat may be reabsorbed by the body, a significant amount can establish a permanent presence in the treated areas.

The Treatment Process

Assessment and Treatment Plan: You will first schedule an assessment and consultation with Dr. Russon to ensure that Fat Grafting is the best treatment to address your concerns.  She will also go over your aesthetic goals, medical history and answer any questions that you may have. Once Dr. Russon has verified that you are a suitable candidate for Fat Grafting, a customized treatment plan will be created. Then a deposit of $1,000 will be required in order to schedule your treatment appointment.

Day Before Treatment: We will reach out to you the day before your treatment to have consent forms signed, to take payment for the remaining balance as well as to order medications that may be needed. You will also be provided pre-treatment instructions.

The Treatment: On the day of the procedure, the treatment area (both the fat harvesting site and the area where fat will be injected) will be marked, and photos may be taken for reference. Local anesthesia will be administered to ensure you are comfortable during the procedure. The fat will then be harvested from the predetermined site and the fat removal is a minimally invasive process. The fat will then be carefully injected into the targeted areas of the face using small, precise injections. This procedure will take approximately 2 hours to complete.

Post-Procedure Care and Recovery: After the treatment, you may experience swelling, bruising and mild discomfort at both the fat harvesting site as well as the targeted areas where the fat was transferred. Our team will provide post-treatment care instructions which may include compresses and pain medication, if necessary. The recovery period can vary, but most patients can resume normal activities within 1-2 weeks. It is important to follow all post-treatment care instructions.

Follow Up Appointment: You will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Russon who will assess your progress and address any concerns. Additional treatments may be recommended for optimal results.

Factors that can influence the survival rate of the grafted fat cells :

    • Sleeping on the graft sites will compress and kill the fat cells, which will lower the survival rate of your grafted fat.
    • Trying to loose weight while receiving fat grafting can lessen the survival rate.  It is best to maintain the same weight when the grafts are placed.
    • Your diet needs to be full of protein, vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc to help support the grafted fat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fat Grafting, or fat transfer, is an effective method for adding volume to specific areas. Fat grafting restores youthful contours.

The process involves harvesting fat from another body area, commonly the stomach area love handles,  or thighs, to obtain fat. Once the fluid is removed, the harvested fat is loaded into syringes and strategically injected into areas requiring rejuvenation.

While dermal fillers offer effective results, they may not provide the longevity desired by some patients. For patients seeking a more enduring alternative to fillers, a fat transfer or graft proves to be the solution.

Because fat is a natural substance and is harvested from your own body, the results look and feel more natural, compared to synthetic fillers. Fat Grafting can also provide a more harmonious integration with the surrounding tissues.

Fat Grafting can fill any spot where volume would be beneficial. For the face, fat can be used to plump the cheeks, under-eyes, chin  and the lips.

Fat injections correct areas of the face that have sunken and creased with time.

There is minimal downtime associated with the procedure, with most patients returning to work the day following treatment.

Patients should reduce their physical activity for one to two weeks after the procedure, to allow the body to recover as rapidly as possible.
